“Why I Like Green Mountain Treats” – Wesley Kimble

I really like what Green Mountain Treats is about as a company. I like that they are a small business focused on quality over quantity, the fact that they use local chicken farms for their products, everything is appealing. I like that founder Kenny Hamblin started making the treats because he didn’t think the existing “all natural products” on the market were good enough for his and his parents’ dogs. To me, that shows someone who genuinely cares about the well being of pets, and who certainly cares about every nuance of the product he is making.

When I introduced my eight year-old Wheaten Terrier, Chesney, to Green Mountain Treats, he stared at the treat for a few seconds and then ate it in what seemed like a millisecond. He then proceeded to stare at me with a smile that reminded me of Winn-Dixie from the movie Because of Winn-Dixie. I had to give him another; I just could not help it. For the next few days, whenever I would touch the bag, he would hear the crinkle of the paper and would automatically sit and hold his paw up before I even told him to “Shake”. I am excited about Green Mountain Treats because 1) Chesney loves them and 2) I know that I am giving him something that is healthy for him, is all natural, and a product whose founder shows genuine compassion. At eight years old, Chesney still has plenty of energy, especially being a terrier, but I know that he is getting older every day and I want him to have a treat that will keep him feeling young and keep him in in the proper weight category. Im happy to have found all of these attributes in Green Mountain Treats and I think my dog Chesney is even happier!

Green Mountain Treat Mission: Fight Obesity in Pets

This entry was posted on by .

fat-dog-lazy-dog-pet-obesityI know it sounds crazy but we, Green Mountain Treat delectable treat makers, are appalled by pet obesity. Just like people, obesity among adult dogs and cats is a growing problem.

According to The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, veterinarians say 55% of adult cats and 53% of adult dogs are obese. That is an alarming statistic!

Ensuring the highest quality of life for your pets and ours is a huge goal here at Green Mountain Treats.  When looking at the nutritional facts of our treats, the fat is under 8% and protein is nearly 34% of the daily value!

The Green Mountain Treats team wants owners to be aware of what they are feeding their pets.

We encourage you to look at the quality any dog or cat treat you are considering with an eye towards two things: quality and quantity. One should look at whether or not there are additives or preservatives and avoid these at all costs.

Anything unnatural should not be in our pets’ diets. You should also think about how big or small your dog is in relation to the size treat.

Green Mountain Treats offers the perfect products to help fight obesity in pets. Aside from our healthy treats, we also offer Livertastic “Magic” Sprinkles for Cats & Dogs.

100% Natural Magic Sprinklers - Made in America Pet Treats

100% Natural Magic Sprinklers – Made in America Pet Treats

Our magic sprinkles give pet owners the opportunity to make healthy choices a bit more palatable for their cat or dog. Our vet recommended green beans, which typically have less than 50 calories in one cup, as a low calorie way to provide a feeling of satiety for our “always hungry Lab”.

After sprinkling a small amount of Magic Sprinkles on green beans, our dogs and cats have devoured them, much like a child eating his or her favorite candy on Halloween; only in this case the green beans are extremely beneficial for our pets’ health and helps maintain a healthy weight for overweight dogs and cats. The Livertastic “Magic” Sprinkles are a very easy and creative way to trick our pets into eating healthy foods.

What’s on the Label of your Dog & Cat Treat?

Our dogs(Bella and Lily) and cat(Magic) are important members of the family. Day and night, by our side and always ready to both give and receive affection. Just like our children, their health is of paramount concern to us.

We discovered Green Mountain Treats on a self-imposed quest to know and trust the ingredients in their food and treats.

On our quest, we found that many companies that marketed their products as healthy were anything but good for our pets.

Although ingredients are listed, many pet owners are not fully informed when it comes to what constitutes “healthy” in a dog treat; I know I wasn’t until just a couple of years ago.

What I learned is that many manufacturers use preservatives, fillers, additives, binders, sweeteners and coloring agents. Propylene Glycol, used in many moist pet foods and treats, is actually toxic if consumed in large amounts.

In the European Union, this “ingredient” is not cleared as a general-purpose food grade product or direct food additive. Green Mountain treats answered our need to know that the treats we were training and rewarding with were also good for our pets.

Hearing about weird ingredients can be scary. Watching pets pack on pounds can also be scary. Safety aside, many treats marketed as “healthy” are as calorie ridden as candy or cookies. Many pet owners have turned to locally-sourced pet food and treats, with all-natural products, like Green Mountain Treats.

These delicious and naturally low calorie treats are made entirely of a singular, healthy ingredient: locally sourced and completely natural dehydrated chicken liver.

Why Green Mountain Treats?

There are absolutely no fillers, binders, additives, sweeteners, or preservatives of any sort. Green Mountain Treats’ can be used for training with sport dogs and can also be broken into much smaller portions for our canines of a more petite scale.

So, train hard and treat well, knowing that you have chosen the best in Green Mountain Treats!
